What is Reiki healing?
A gentle Japanese energy healing technique
Reiki is a gentle Japanese energy healing technique, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early twentieth century. In Usui Reiki, a practitioner channels universal life force energy, the same subtle, natural energy many traditions call prana, through light hand placements on or above the body. The word Reiki points to this universal energy, and a Reiki healing session uses it to support your physical, emotional, and mental well-being all at once. As a healing system it belongs to the wider family of alternative medicine and natural medicine, gentle by design and safe to combine with mindfulness, therapy, or ordinary medical care for your overall health.
Working with your energy field
The practice is non-invasive and works with your energy field rather than on the physical body directly. As the energy flows, it helps clear blockages across the body's energy centres, or chakras, and invites the system into deep rest and energetic balance. Most people find Reiki healing profoundly soothing, and you do not need any belief, background, or special ability to feel its healing power. Reiki works gently and cumulatively, which is why many people return for regular Reiki sessions as part of an ongoing wellness practice for better sleep, emotional well-being, and a steady sense of inner peace. This same power of Reiki also makes it a beautiful tool for self healing once you learn a few simple Reiki techniques of your own, and it fits naturally into a broader healing and spiritual practice.
Two ways to receive Reiki
Because it calms rather than stimulates, Reiki energy healing sits naturally alongside meditation, gentle yoga, and sound healing. That is exactly why we offer it two ways, as direct hands-on energy work, and woven into a guided meditation, so you can meet the same healing energy in the form that serves you best.
There is no single right way to receive Reiki. In a healing session, the practitioner does the work while you rest. Others want to be guided inward, to meditate and feel the energy move on their own breath. So we offer both, and you are welcome to try either, or move between them over time.
How a session works
A Reiki healing session
A Reiki healing session in Kathmandu is direct, hands-on energy work. A certified, experienced Reiki practitioner, your healer for the hour, channels universal life energy through light hand placements to support your physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. You remain fully clothed and rest comfortably while the practitioner works with your energy field to promote deep relaxation, chakra balancing, and natural healing. You only need to lie down and rest.
What happens during the hour
The healer works through a set sequence of hand positions: over the head and face, the throat and chest, the stomach, then the legs and feet. Each position is held for a few minutes, with the hands resting lightly on or just above the body. There is no massage, no pressure and no oil. In Usui Reiki the healer acts as a channel for the energy, so the work is quiet and steady, and you only need to rest.
People notice different things. Some feel warmth or tingling where the hands rest, some feel heavy or sleepy, and some fall asleep. Others notice very little. All of these are normal. At the end the healer gives you a few quiet minutes and a glass of water before you get up.
Reiki meditation
Reiki meditation combines guided meditation with Reiki energy flow. Where a healing session asks you only to rest and receive, Reiki meditation guides you through a meditation while the Reiki energy works. It suits people who want to meditate and learn to feel the energy themselves. It suits complete beginners and experienced meditators alike.
Whichever path you choose
Whichever path you choose, the foundation is the same. Reiki is universal life force energy, channelled by a certified Reiki practitioner to support your body's own healing process. You stay fully clothed and rest throughout. If you are not sure which option suits you, tell us what you are hoping for and we will point you to the right one.
