What is Reiki Level 2?

Reiki Level 2, called Okuden in Japanese and Second Degree in English, is the level for working with other people. You receive the second attunement and three symbols, learn to treat other people properly, and learn to send Reiki at a distance to someone who is not in the room.

It is taught at least three months after Level 1, once your daily practice has settled. It takes two days at our centre in Tarkeshwor, Kathmandu: 5 hours of training a day, with a vegetarian lunch break.

The Jivan Parivartan way

A women-led center teaching in Tarkeshwor, Kathmandu since 2021: thousands of sessions, guests from more than eleven countries. Groups stay small.

Reiki Level 2: what you learn in two days

The second attunement

The attunement is again on the first training day, in the same short ceremony as Level 1: about 15 minutes in a chair, eyes closed, while your teacher works with breath and symbols. Most people notice little during it, and any changes tend to come in the days after.

The three symbols

Level 2 introduces three symbols, each learned with its own use. Together they are what let the practice work without touch and at a distance. You use them in sessions during the training, under your teacher's supervision.

Distance Reiki

At this level the work no longer needs touch. You learn distance practice, for people who are not in the room with you, and practise it before you leave.

Working with clients

Level 2 is the level to take if you want to treat people beyond your own household. You learn how to structure a session from start to finish, how to look after someone afterwards, and how to work with clients ethically. Reiki is not medical treatment, and clients keep to their doctor's care.

After Level 2

Three months of daily practice

After the training, daily practice continues at home, two to three hours a day for three months.

Charging for sessions

After Level 2 you are trained to work with other people. Whether you charge is your decision and depends on the rules where you live. Some countries require registration or insurance for hands-on practice, so check them before you start.

When you can take Master Level

At least nine months after Level 2, and only if you have kept up the practice. Many students come back after a year or two. There is no upper limit.

A day of Reiki Level 2 training

Level 2 runs over two days on the same daily schedule as Level 1. Training is non-residential: you stay where you like and come to the centre each day.
